Development & Fundraising Intern
- Location: Houston, TX
- Reports To: Statewide Development Director
Position Overview
The Development & Fundraising Internship is a specialized program established by our organization to offer an invaluable opportunity for students passionate about the non-profit sector. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in fundraising strategy, donor relations, and CRM database management, specifically supporting our $1 million annual development goal. This is an 8-to-10-week, in-person internship based at our Houston office. The schedule is flexible to accommodate academic commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a comprehensive audit of our EveryAction CRM to identify gaps in donor engagement, specifically analyzing LYBUNT (Last Year but Unfortunately Not This Year) and SYBUNT (Some Year but Unfortunately Not This Year) segments.
- Design and launch a formal Recurring Sustainer Program, developing tiered giving structures, donor benefits, and stewardship communication calendars.
- Utilize Canva to create compelling, donor-facing collateral to support campaign outreach and donor retention.
Conduct market research on best practices for monthly giving programs to align with our civil rights advocacy mission. - Support the development team with administrative and clerical tasks, including data entry and miscellaneous operational duties.
- Participate in off-site meetings and site visits within the Houston area as required for event logistics and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Nonprofit Management, Leadership, or Development; Human Development and Family Studies; Communications/Public Relations; Business/Marketing; Political Science/Advocacy; Sociology/Psychology; or Data Science.
- Demonstrated interest in fundraising, donor stewardship, and nonprofit operations.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort with or ability to quickly master CRM systems (EveryAction).
- Creative proficiency with graphic design tools (specifically Canva).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Commitment to our mission of civil rights, advocacy, and community empowerment.
Compensation
$500 – $1000 Stipend
